The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie DePaola

Summary: The people called Comanche were suffering through drought and famine.  A small girl named She-Who-Is-Alone is witnessing this suffering in her people.  So she sacrifices her most beloved possession her doll to the Great Spirit.  The Great Spirit repays this act of sacrifice by sending some much needed rain along with a surprise every spring - bluebonnets.


Visual element - Composition: The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie DePaola brings the elements of line, shape, color, and texture to tell this story about bluebonnets.  The character comes to life through vivid colors.


Plot: The character in The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie DePaola must save her people.  It is a problem-solve situation where the character must endure what she holds dear to save her community.
